Chester County G. O. Carlson Airport is a public airport 2 miles west of Coatesville, Pennsylvania. The 352 acre airport was originally opened in 1928 and throught the history of the airport it has continually gone through expansion and infrastructure upgrade phases. As part of a recent refurbishing project our team worked through a large general contractor to refurbish the entire runway lighting and signage system. The project included a number of critical elements that went well beyond a typical commercial electrical job including the need to follow a number of Federal and State regulatory standards. The technology and circuit design for the airfield ground lighting (AGL) were unique and required our teams specialized expertise. We also had to ensure that we selected FAA-certified fixtures that would integrate seamlessly with the existing control systems. Every in-pavement fixture needed to be connected via a two-pin connector to a specialized isolation transformer.

In order to limit the amount of airport shutdown time, we had multiple teams working in shifts to keep the project going around the clock, 24 hours a day. While the runways were inactive during our project, our team still went through supplemental safety training and applied extra safety measures on the job in order to protect the sensitivity of the environment.
